What’s in Your Digital Marketing Utility Belt – (Part Deux)

Moxie League

Key Tools and Templates that Every Marketer Needs

Welcome back, Leaguers!

In Part Un of this series, I delved into the importance of why you need to have a utility belt. As some of you may know, according to Scream 2, the rules for a horror sequel are: the body count is always bigger, the death scenes are more elaborate (“more blood, more gore”), and, although it is not explained in the final cut, the third rule was revealed in the teaser trailer to be “never, ever, under any circumstances assume the killer is dead.”[1]

Well, Part Duex, as expected, is bigger, better, and chock-full of tools and resources that you will be leveraging from here to eternity!

I will be going over some of the staple tools you need in your utility belt. First things first, you may be asking, “What tools do I really need to be digital marketer?”

In order to answer that, I have to provide a brief definition of digital marketing.

“Digital marketing encompasses all marketing efforts that use an electronic device or the internet. Businesses leverage digital channels such as search engines, social media, email, and other websites to connect with current and prospective customers.”

Here is a quick little video from Hubspot that takes a deeper dive into What is Digital Marketing?

Now that we got that out of the way, I also want to share with you a key tool that Hubspot offers: Digital Marketing for Small Businesses. This is a great, little, FREE resource to help you get your digital marketing strategy off the ground and running. We hope you find it of value.

Now, on to the meat and potatoes: the key tools and templates that every marketer needs.

These are not the totality of the digi-tech (MarTech) tools that are out there. In fact, there is a plethora of tools that are available. Take a look at the infographic below:

Digitech (MarTech) Tools Growth

Email Marketing

A really great example of a digital marketing tool, especially when it comes to email marketing, is Mailchimp. With a massive variety of email digital marketing templates, and with varying tones and completely customizable options, you don’t have to search for hours trying to find something that fits your client’s business. You just need to find the layout you like and customize it for the best look. Most importantly, it’s affordable and integrates well with a number of other platforms.

Content Marketing

Content marketing is the jelly filling in the digital marketing donut. It’s the area where you can get in a lot of information and deepen the tone you’re trying to create. In fact, 72% of marketing agents recognized an increase in leads through content marketing, and yet 32% rate their own content less than favorable. Maintaining content is a tricky business, but Kapost makes it easier. Not only does this digital marketing tool help with all the stages of content marketing, but it also allows you to keep track of each stage to see where you’re succeeding the most.

SEO Marketing

We all know the importance of SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Many people live their lives through Google, and most social media platforms and websites utilize search engines to help people find what they’re looking for. SEMrush is a great tool that will help you stay on top. This tool helps you keep track of your client’s competitors, too, and may open the door for more business for you.

Social Media Marketing

Social media is how families stay connected, people get news, and long-lost friends and new friends are found. It’s also one of the ways businesses find customers. Buffer allows you to use all the platforms easily as well as get detailed analytics, share content quickly, and schedule posts. You can even build a team with Buffer for jobs that require more hands on deck. There are many more great things you can do with this tool that will make your job a lot easier.

These are just three examples of tools that you can add to your utility belt. In Part Trois of this series, you will be introduced to even more examples of some key tools that every digital marketer should have in their utility belt, from marketing templates, collaboration, and project management tools to research tools.

Until next time, stay moxie my friends!
